NSW Battery Rebate Scheme

Sunpower All-Black Panels → 16 x Free panels with a Maxeon Reserve Battery

Across NSW, we are seeing ads popping up on social media saying the government are paying to install solar and batteries on your home, and they are right (kinda).

NSW Government is commencing a Battery Rebate to begin in November 2024 under their Peak Demand Reduction Scheme (PDRS), a government scheme that sits parrallel to the NSW Energy Savings Scheme (ESS).

The PDRS will introduce Residential Battery installations as an eligible technology from 1-November-2024. For Eligible installations, solar installers will be able to create and claim Peak Reduction Certificates (PRC’s) where a battery is installed at a home or small business in 3 circumstances;

  1. For a solar and battery installation (no existing solar or battery onsite)

  2. Retrofitting a battery to an existing solar installation (no existing battery)

  3. Connecting a new or existing battery to a VPP

NSW Residents looking to install solar and battery storage for the first time, you will be able to claim STC’s from the solar panels being installed as well as the battery PRC’s being created = Double Win.

ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA

New Battery Installations meeting the following criteria are eligible to claim the PRC rebate:

  • 2-28kWh capacity

  • Battery is on the CEC registered products list

  • In a residential or business setting

  • Must have an existing solar system, or have solar installed concurrently with the battery

  • 10-year minimum warranty (guaranteeing retention of a minimum of 70% of useable capacity)

  • Registered on the DER register

  • A smoke alarm must be installed near the battery (if installed in a garage)

  • The customer has paid a minimum of $200 exc GST

A second lower-value rebate is available where:

  • A new battery compliant with the above criteria is connected to a VPP

  • An existing battery compliant with the above is connected to a VPP, providing a minimum of 6 years are left on the product warranty

Having looking into the market of eligible batteries for the PDRS scheme, at $2 per PRC, we believe the following batteries will be eligible & the estimated rebates;
